Chris Eubank Jr has revealed that a series of persistent health issues have forced him to step away from the ring, posting a video from hospital and assuring fans he will not fight again until fully recovered.

In a video shared on Instagram he admitted he had been “dealing with a lot of health issues over the last year & yeah it all finally caught up to me last month.”

He continued,

“I will not box again until I’m back to 100%. I don’t know when that will be, but one things for certain… For the fans that have supported me through thick & thin, I will do everything in my power to make sure that one day, the old me makes a big comeback.”

While he has not publicly disclosed specific medical details, some sources point to potential dehydration and digestive difficulties as possible contributing factors, problems often tied to the extreme weight-cuts fighters undergo before bouts.

The announcement follows his November rematch loss to long-time rival Conor Benn, where Eubank Jr was outpointed and suffered two knockdowns in the final round, a far cry from his victory over the same opponent seven months earlier at the same venue. In the immediate aftermath of that defeat he admitted that he had been “through hell and back” preparing for the fight, but offered no explanation at the time for what had troubled him.

Eubank Jr’s history with harsh weight-cuts for fights with Conor Benn has been well documented. For his previous bout with Benn in April 2025, he was hospitalised for two nights after severe dehydration, though at that time initial medical checks reportedly came back clear. On that occasion, he also suffered a cut above his right eye after a clash of heads, which required stitching, an injury he later clarified was not a broken jaw as had been speculated.

The saga places his future in serious doubt. His heavyweight-status promoter indicated there is hope of a return, but only once Eubank Jr is truly recovered. In his latest update he made clear there is no timeline for a return, saying he is not “in the state of mind” to think about future fights until he has thoroughly healed, prioritising his health over any immediate ambition in the sport.

,At the same time his rival, Benn, has already been named the mandatory challenger for the WBC welterweight title at 147 lbs, a path that suggests a third fight between them is unlikely imminent.
