Prince Andrew, Duke of York has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, according to a statement from Thames Valley Police. The development marks a significant escalation in an investigation linked to allegations involving the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Police confirmed that a man in his sixties from Norfolk is currently in custody. Officers are conducting searches at properties in both Berkshire and Norfolk as part of the inquiry. Images from earlier today show vehicles believed to be police cars arriving at the Sandringham Estate, one of the royal family’s private residences.
In a statement, Thames Valley Police said:
“As part of the investigation, we have today (19/2) arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk. The man remains in police custody at this time.”

The arrest follows an earlier announcement by Thames Valley Police that they were assessing a complaint concerning the alleged sharing of confidential material by Prince Andrew with Jeffrey Epstein.
Prince Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles III, has previously denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein. Today marks his 66th birthday.
The case has drawn intense public and media scrutiny, particularly following the release of extensive Epstein-related files earlier this year.

Misconduct in public office is a complex and relatively rare criminal offence under UK law. At its core, it concerns serious wrongdoing by someone entrusted with public responsibilities.
For a charge to be considered, investigators must examine four key elements:
This final element is particularly important, as suspects must be given the opportunity to explain their actions as part of due process.

Norfolk Constabulary confirmed it is supporting the investigation but has not officially identified the individual in custody, citing national guidance.
Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright stated:
“Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.
It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

King Charles has said “the law must take its course” after expressing his “deepest concern” over the arrest of his younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
In a statement, the monarch said:
"I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all."
The situation remains fluid, with Prince Andrew still in custody and searches ongoing. Further updates are expected as investigators continue gathering evidence and determining whether charges will be brought.
