Sacha Baron Cohen has officially brought back one of his most famous characters, Ali G, making a surprise appearance at the Wimbledon men's singles final and fuelling excitement over reports of a new film featuring the comedy icon. The 54-year-old actor first introduced the self-proclaimed Staines representative in the late 1990s on The 11 O’Clock Show before the character exploded in popularity through Da Ali G Show. Known for his exaggerated street persona, colourful tracksuits and awkward celebrity interviews, Ali G became one of British comedy’s most recognisable creations.

Although Cohen has rarely appeared as the character in recent years, fans were treated to an unexpected comeback at Centre Court on Sunday. Dressed in a Wimbledon-themed tracksuit, complete with a hat, oversized gold chain and signature sunglasses, Ali G was spotted among spectators at the prestigious tennis event.

The outfit also featured the slogan “Official Ganja Dealer” across the back, while Cohen fully embraced the character’s trademark appearance and mannerisms throughout the outing.

The return was later confirmed through a newly launched official Ali G Instagram account. A video shared from the Wimbledon final showed the character offering his unique take on the sport, claiming he had only recently discovered tennis.

In the clip, Ali G jokingly described tennis as “the crap version of ping-pong” before launching into a series of tongue-in-cheek remarks aimed at spectators attending the final.

The accompanying caption continued the joke, with the character making humorous references to helping bored fans enjoy the event.

Ali G's reappearance comes amid reports that a new film centred on the character has already completed production in secret. While an official release date has yet to be announced, the project would mark Ali G’s first feature-length outing since 2002's Ali G Indahouse.

The original film became a cult favourite and helped cement the character’s place in British pop culture. Meanwhile, Da Ali G Show ran between 2000 and 2004, becoming known for its unconventional interviews with politicians, celebrities and public figures who often found themselves caught off guard by Ali G’s bizarre questions and observations.

Over the years, the character interviewed a number of high-profile names and became a global comedy phenomenon, helping launch Cohen's career before he went on to create other famous alter egos, including Borat and Brüno.

With Ali G now back in the spotlight and a new movie reportedly on the horizon, fans are eagerly waiting to see what the character has in store next after his unexpected Wimbledon comeback.
