COUPLE FOUND GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER AFTER THEIR NEWBORN DIES WHILE THEY WERE ON THE RUN

Aristocrat Constance Marten and her partner Mark Gordon were found guilty of killing their newborn daughter, Victoria, after going on the run to stop her being taken into care. Victoria died from neglect while the couple camped in freezing conditions in a flimsy tent. The pair hid her body in a rubbish-filled shopping bag. Already convicted of concealing the birth and child cruelty, they were later found guilty of manslaughter. Prosecutors described their actions as “reckless” and “selfish”. The couple denied wrongdoing, claiming the baby’s death was a tragic accident. Sentencing is set for 15 September.
