ZION FOSTER CLARIFIES ‘OUT OF MY DEPTH’ COMMENT AS JESY NELSON DOCUMENTARY SPARKS DISCUSSION

Zion Foster has broken his silence after facing widespread criticism following the release of Jesy Nelson's documentary, in which the former Little Mix star reflected on the breakdown of their relationship while documenting the emotional journey surrounding the birth of their twin daughters.

The documentary explores Jesy's pregnancy, the medical complications the twins faced, and the strain those circumstances placed on the couple's relationship. During the programme, Jesy spoke candidly about the challenges they experienced, revealing that the twins' diagnosis played a significant part in their split.

Speaking in the documentary, Jesy explained that while they were both processing an incredibly difficult situation, Zion admitted he felt "out of my depth", something she said made her realise they were dealing with the situation differently.

She also shared that she ultimately made the decision to end their relationship, explaining that she needed to prioritise herself and their daughters during an exceptionally emotional period.

Following the documentary's release, clips quickly spread across social media, with many viewers interpreting Zion's comments as a sign that he had stepped away from his responsibilities as a father. As the discussion gathered pace online, criticism towards the singer intensified.

In response, Zion took to his Instagram Story to address what he described as "false claims", insisting his original words had been taken out of context.

His statement read:

"I've stayed quiet because my focus has always been where it should be on my children.
"Reading some of the comments over the last few days has been incredibly painful because they simply aren't true.
"When I said I was "out of my depth”, I wasn’t saying I was walking away from my children or abandoning my responsibilities as a father. I was talking about the overwhelming reality of suddenly facing a rare and complex diagnosis that I knew nothing about.
"I was being honest.
"I didn't have the knowledge. I didn't have the experience. I was scared. I was trying to process emotions that no parent ever hopes to face.
"Being out of my depth meant I was learning. It meant I was trying to understand. It never meant I didn't love my daughters or that I wasn't going to be there for them.
"I love my girls more than words could ever express. They are my world and always will be.
"The end of a relationship does not mean the end of fatherhood. Jesy made the decision to end our relationship, and although I respect that, it does not change the fact that I remain committed to my daughters in every way I possibly can.
"I attend every appointment. I educate myself every single day about their condition. I ask questions. I listen. I learn. I support them however I can because being their father is the greatest responsibility and privilege of my life.
"This journey has been heartbreaking for all of us. Nobody prepares you for news like this, and we're all navigating it in our own way. I feel the pain alongside Jesy because these are our children, and I will always want what's best for them.
"Please don't mistake vulnerability for abandonment. They're not the same thing.
"Asking for help or admitting you don't have all the answers doesn't make someone a bad father. It makes them human.
"I know who I am. The people closest to me know the truth. Most importantly, one day my daughters will know that I never stopped loving them, never stopped fighting for them and never stopped being their dad.
"Thank you to everyone who has shown compassion, kindness and understanding. It means more than you'll ever know."

Zion's response came after Jesy discussed their separation in the documentary, explaining that their daughters' medical condition had changed everything for the pair.

She previously revealed that the emotional weight of becoming parents to premature twins with a rare diagnosis placed enormous pressure on their relationship. Reflecting on that period, Jesy explained that she and Zion coped differently, adding that his admission that he felt "out of his depth" became a turning point for her.

Jesy also said she ended the relationship herself, rather than the split being initiated by Zion, while making clear that both of them were facing circumstances no parent expects to encounter.

Following Zion's statement, social media quickly became divided, with many people defending him, while others maintained their criticism. One person commented:

"I understood what he meant and I think it’s totally okay to empathise and just have some compassion for the overall situation."

Another wrote:

"Jesy never takes accountability, she ended the relationship but made it sound like her man just dropped her like it was hot."

A third said:

"Blah blah blah. She is a single mum, step up and effectively co-parent. She is also new to the kids’ medical issues but is doing what needs to be done as a parent. Show her you are capable of raising your children."

Meanwhile, another added:

"Social media is a vile place to be. People think because someone doesn't post every day it’s not happening. Get a grip!!"

The discussion continues to generate strong reactions online, with many pointing out that the documentary offers Jesy's perspective on an incredibly personal chapter of her life, while Zion's statement provides further context about how he experienced the same events. As conversations continue across social media, both parents have made clear that, despite the end of their relationship, their daughters remain at the centre of everything they do.
