Day five of the trial of YouTuber and rapper Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, known professionally as Yung Filly, concluded with the defence confirming he will give evidence when proceedings resume on Monday.

Barrientos has pleaded not guilty to 10 charges relating to the alleged rape and assault of a woman following a performance in Perth in September 2024. Prosecutors allege the pair had consensual sex in a room at the InterContinental Hotel before the encounter became violent. Barrientos denies all of the allegations against him.

Friday marked the end of the prosecution's case, meaning the defence is set to begin calling its own witnesses when the trial resumes.

Among those to give evidence was Malcolm Pages, the owner of Bar1, the Perth venue where the complainant first met Barrientos on the night in question.

Pages told the court the complainant repeatedly tried to gain access to the VIP area throughout the evening. According to his evidence, she approached him "four or five times" asking to be allowed into the restricted section.

He also told the jury that he informed her she would have to wait until she was "green-lit", adding that she later began sending direct messages to the venue's Instagram account requesting entry, which he described as "getting too much."

The court also heard further forensic evidence from scientist Daniel Turner, who told jurors that no male DNA linked to Barrientos could be identified from the samples tested.

Turner explained that the findings did not rule out sexual contact and outlined several possible reasons why no identifiable DNA was recovered. Prosecutors allege Barrientos became violent after the pair had consensual sex, with the complainant alleging she suffered bruising to her face and neck, along with a bite wound to her breast.

The defence also turned its attention to the police investigation, with defence counsel David Edwardson KC questioning several aspects of the inquiries carried out after the complainant reported the alleged offences.

Edwardson criticised detectives for not interviewing the Uber driver who took the complainant away from the hotel, arguing the driver could potentially have provided relevant evidence about her condition and demeanour after leaving.

He also questioned why investigators had not identified or interviewed another person the complainant reportedly spoke to by telephone after leaving the hotel.

Lead investigator Sergeant Melissa James told the court interviewing the Uber driver "wasn't our priority."

The jury also heard that the complainant had MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, in her blood sample. The defence argued that a member of Barrientos's entourage who was present in the hotel after the alleged incident had also not been interviewed, suggesting that individual may have been able to provide important evidence.

With the prosecution having now closed its case, attention will turn to the defence when proceedings continue on Monday. Barrientos is expected to take the witness stand himself, where he will be questioned about the allegations for the first time during the trial.

The latest developments have prompted further discussion online, with many saying the outcome of the case will have lasting consequences regardless of the verdict. One person commented:
