YUNG FILLY RETURNS TO SOCIAL MEDIA AFTER RETURNING TO THE UK AS HE AWAITS AUSTRALIAN RAPE TRIAL

YouTube star and rapper, Yung Filly, has made his return to social media in a bizarre Snapchat post about his hair. Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, has been virtually radio silent on social media platforms during the time he was being held in Perth, Australia, as he awaited his impending trial for rape, sexual assault, and assault. However, following a trial on the 12th September, the 30-year-old was granted permission to return to the UK.

The Snapchat post features Filly, who presumably is fresh out of the shower, sporting his natural curls, followed by the caption “Does the curly hair suit me?”. Followers were perplexed by his out-of-the-blue post, with some comments criticising the new do, and others criticising his nonchalant attitude. Most comments were rooted in ridicule and humour, with one commenter saying: “My friend said it makes you look like you did what they say you did”, clearly jabbing at the allegations against Filly.

Another commenter said: “That’s the least of your worries pal”. Many other commenters seemed to cringe at the post, showing discomfort at his casual re-emergence to social media, as though nothing was amiss. The general consensus among the public, aside from those who found the randomness of his post hilarious, was that Filly’s platform could be better utilised to address the controversies surrounding him, or that he is better off remaining quiet until his trial draws to a conclusion. Fans were also similarly confused after he posted a second Snapchat post, this time posting a video of himself walking on the street barefoot with audio of US rapper Cardi B's song 'Hello'. One commenter joked saying : "Nurse, he's out again", whilst another called him "lost".

Why was Yung Filly being held in Australia?

Prior to being granted bail and permission to return to the UK for the Christmas period, Yung Filly was held in Perth, Australia, awaiting trial over claims that he raped, choked, and assaulted a woman in Perth while touring Australia last year. He was extradited from Brisbane to Perth by police 11 days after the alleged attack, which reportedly took place in a Perth hotel room. He pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, choking and assault, but has not yet entered pleas to two additional rape counts.

Although granted permission to return home for the holiday season, the YouTube star must still follow tight bail conditions. He was ordered to provide a £50,000 ($100,000 AUD) surety to the court, in addition to the existing £50,000 personal undertaking already in place. He must remain at a Kent residence during his stay in the UK and keep location services active on all electronic devices. He is also prohibited from discussing his charges on social media.

The updated bail terms follow a ban preventing the YouTuber from leaving Australia in October last year. Before Friday, he was required to report regularly to Perth police station. Since being charged, Filly has lost a number of brand deals, company partnerships and public appearances. The Football Association cancelled an online cookery series involving the YouTuber. Filly had recorded the programme with the FA and M&S, but once the allegations became public, they chose not to broadcast the episodes. He is due to face trial at the Perth District Court in July 2026.
