Kristy Crampton, 39, has been charged with felony child abuse after allegedly hitting a boy on a flight from Orlando to Maryland. The incident reportedly began when the child insulted her appearance, calling her “fat Miss Piggy.” Witnesses say she responded by striking him multiple times and slamming his head against the aircraft window.
Crampton was arrested at Sanford-Orlando International Airport on 26 May following an alleged physical altercation with a young boy aboard an Allegiant Airlines flight bound for Hagerstown, Maryland.
According to reports, the incident occurred shortly before take-off. Crampton told police that the boy had been "very rude" and "disrespectful" during their time together. She claimed that she resorted to physical action after he repeatedly pushed her arm off the shared armrest. However, a witness described her behaviour as abusive rather than corrective.
The exact relationship between Crampton and the child remains unclear, though they were reportedly part of the same group returning from a trip to Disney World. The child's family has not provided a statement to authorities.
Crampton was released on a $10,000 bond following a hearing in Seminole County on 27 May. She has been ordered to have no contact with the child pending further legal proceedings.
