WIZKID CALLS OUT BURNA BOY AFTER ALLEGED ALTERCATION WITH DJ TUNEZ

Nigerian superstar Wizkid has publicly addressed an alleged altercation involving his long‑time DJ, DJ Tunez, and fellow Afrobeats artist Burna Boy, sparking widespread debate across social media. The incident, which reportedly took place at a packed Lagos event, has seen fans, industry figures and commentators weigh in, with videos of the clash circulating and prompting heated discussions about the conduct of high-profile performers.

The clash occurred on 6 April at Obi’s House, where DJ Tunez was performing. Eyewitnesses and viral footage show the situation escalating into a physical confrontation, with Tunez allegedly attacked by Burna Boy and multiple members of his entourage. One widely shared clip appears to show dozens of people involved as bystanders tried to intervene, highlighting the chaotic nature of the incident.

Following the altercation, Wizkid took to social media to condemn the actions against his DJ, posting a message that read,

“Pussy nigga Jump a dj with 10man carry diddy towel Dey dance. I never see fool like this diddy babe for my life,”

Which quickly gained traction online. In addition to his words, Wizkid shared a photo of a bottle of baby oil, a move many interpreted as a mocking reference to Burna Boy and online jokes connecting him to Sean “Diddy” Combs.

DJ Tunez also responded on social media, describing the incident from his perspective and claiming he had been attacked from behind, writing:

“YOU HIT ME IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD WITHOUT ME LOOKING! THATS SOME SUCKA SHIiT MY BOY! 1 VS 10 AND I STOOD MY GROUND… THAT’S WHY YOU COLLECTED AS WELL, WHEN I DEFENDED MYSELF.”

Tunez further shared a reposted X post mocking Burna Boy’s behaviour, which read:

“Grown man dancing in a towel for another grown man. No babes in sight. While admitting to something criminal online. Different kind of fool.”

In addition, he added his own post jokingly remarking “I KNEW THAT TOWEL LOOKED FAMILIAR", referencing the comparison to Diddy, which reinforced the performative and public nature of the feud.

Fans and observers were quick to react, sharing a range of perspectives on the clash. One user wrote,

“DJ Tunez earned my respect despite the fact that Burna Boy men outnumbered and jumped on him, bro stood on business and fought like a man,”

Praising Tunez’s resilience. Another remarked,

“When you build your friendships on hate, this is the result..”,

Reflecting on long-standing tensions between artists. Some questioned the overall priorities of high-profile performers, noting,

“Even if he was being petty and not playing your music, aren’t you being paid enough to not care.”

Many commentators debated the trigger of the fight, with some suggesting that DJ Tunez’s setlist, which allegedly featured rival artists over Burna Boy’s tracks, may have been a factor, while others emphasised deeper, long‑standing rivalries within the Afrobeats scene as a likely cause. Observers also noted that while the incident was shocking, it sheds light on the competitive nature of the music industry in Lagos and beyond.

In response to the clash, the Nigerian DJ Association released a statement condemning violence and implementing a temporary ban on Burna Boy’s music from its members’ playlists, pending investigation. The association called for professionalism and respect at live performances, encouraging DJs to maintain high standards and avoid involvement in personal disputes that could escalate into physical confrontations.

Burna Boy later posted a video appearing to mock DJ Tunez by dancing to one of Tunez’s own songs, altering lyrics to reference Tunez’s alleged fall during the scuffle. Many saw this as further provocation, inflaming the situation and reinforcing the viral nature of the feud across social media.
