Rapper-turned-conservationist, TY FROM THE WYLD, has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of Stephen Morrisson, the younger brother of rapper Morrisson, more than five years after the incident. Stephen, 30, was attacked near a Shell petrol station in Epping, Essex, on the evening of June 23, 2020. Despite managing to exit his car, he collapsed on the forecourt. Bystanders tried to help and called emergency services. He was taken to the Royal London Hospital but later died from a stab wound to the liver.

Police have now charged 28-year-old TY FROM THE WYLD, whose real name is Yonas Girma, with murder. He is set to appear in Southend Magistrates’ Court. Officers revealed the investigation was extensive, involving over 200 hours of CCTV footage and the examination of more than 1,000 pieces of evidence, including dozens of phones, computers, and several vehicles. Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood, senior investigating officer on the investigation into Stephen’s murder, said: “Today’s action is by no means our end goal, but it is a significant step in this investigation."

"Over the last five years, we have encountered a number of challenges, and we have never lost sight of the reason we continue to work so determinedly – and that is to secure justice for Stephen’s family and friends."

"They have been without Stephen for five years now. That’s five years without a loving son, brother and uncle. Our continued focus on this case means we have left no stone unturned, we continue to strive to bring those responsible for Stephen’s death to justice, no matter what it takes.”

Soon after the heartbreaking news of his brother’s death, rapper Morrisson shared a heartfelt tribute to his brother on Instagram. The post read:  "Rest in peace my brother, my friend, my twin, Stevo - I’m gonna miss you bro. No words can explain this pain. I’m thankful for everything you done for me and our family. We ain’t no angels but you didn’t deserve to go out like that and I'm thankful I got to bump into you on Father’s Day and cuddle you and tell you I love you and say goodbye."

Several well-known figures expressed their sympathy on Instagram following the news, with messages of support coming from West Ham and England footballer Declan Rice, rapper Wretch 32, and music producer Naughty Boy. Morrisson is a prominent figure in the grime scene, with multiple singles making it onto the UK Singles Chart and placing in the top 40 of the UK R&B chart. One of his notable tracks, the 2021 UK garage song "House & Garage", featuring rapper Aitch, peaked at number 46. Stephen was also the brother of Joey Morrisson, who previously had a relationship with The Only Way Is Essex star Lauren Goodger. She appeared in one of Morrisson’s music videos in 2017, which was shot in her apartment.

TY, once a drill rapper with the groundbreaking west‑London rap crew CGM (formerly 1011), has reinvented himself online as “TY From The Wyld,” where he shares a deep enthusiasm for wildlife and environmental issues. Raised in Ladbroke Grove, TY was stabbed four times during his youth. He admits he got caught up in “nonsense,” but says he always aspired to follow a better path. When discussing his new passion for wildlife in an interview, the rapper explains that he “never had purpose". He added, "Three or four years ago, I would not have seen myself in this light... As I fell into wildlife, I found myself again."
