One of the year’s most persistent musical rumours has finally been laid to rest. For months, fans have speculated that masked Liverpool rapper EsDeeKid might secretly be Hollywood star Timothée Chalamet. Now, Chalamet himself has put the theory to bed by appearing on an unexpected remix of EsDeeKid’s breakout track 4 Raws. Chalamet shared a clip from the remix’s video on social media, showing himself rapping alongside EsDeeKid in a series of gritty, UK-inspired settings, including a cramped kitchen and a housing estate. The cameo immediately sent fans into a frenzy, confirming that while the actor isn’t hiding behind the mask, he’s more than happy to play along with the myth.

Leaning heavily into British references, Chalamet delivers tongue-in-cheek lyrics clearly aimed at a UK audience ahead of the Boxing Day release of his upcoming film Marty Supreme, which receives multiple shoutouts throughout the verse. “Got model bitches in Peckham / I’m Ryan Reynolds in Wrexham,” he raps, blending celebrity bravado with local flavour.

He also references his personal life, nodding to girlfriend Kylie Jenner with the line: “It’s Timothée Chalamet chilling, trying to stack 100 million, girl got a billion.” Elsewhere, he revels in his outsized fame, boasting about Oscars, groupies, and blockbuster movies while racing across the track’s distorted, high-energy beat.

The clip quickly racked up tens of thousands of shares within hours of its release. A full version of the remix has yet to drop, but if it does, it could easily propel 4 Raws back up the UK charts. The track previously peaked at No. 27 before being displaced by the annual surge of Christmas songs.

EsDeeKid’s rise has been meteoric. Once relatively unknown, he has become one of the UK’s most talked-about rappers in a matter of months. His single Century broke into the top 10, while his debut album Rebel was Spotify’s most-streamed rap album worldwide in November and remains in the global top 20.

Part of EsDeeKid’s appeal lies in his mystery. He has never given an interview and keeps his face hidden, revealing only fleeting glimpses of his eyes—fueling theories that he might be Chalamet operating under an alter ego. When BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James asked Chalamet earlier this month about the rumours, the actor teased listeners with a cryptic response: “All will be revealed in due time.”

Chalamet is no stranger to music. Last year he earned an Oscar nomination for his performances of Bob Dylan songs in the biopic A Complete Unknown. He has also spoken openly about his admiration for the UK underground rap scene, even naming cult rapper Fakemink—alongside Susan Boyle—as one of the British artists he most admires.
