A prison nurse has admitted misconduct in public office after engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a convicted murderer while working at Wandsworth Prison.
Stephanie Adair, 29, became romantically involved with Jahki Crosdale, 28, while employed at the troubled South West London jail.
Crosdale was sentenced to six years in prison in 2015 for the fatal stabbing of Charlie Burns, a 19-year-old trainee plumber. The attack followed a dispute over a £150 cannabis debt.
The relationship reportedly took place between September 1, 2023, and November 2, 2024. It came to light after Crosdale, who was serving his sentence, included Adair’s address in court documents.
Adair has since pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office over her relationship with the inmate.
The charge alleges that “while acting as a public officer, namely a prison nurse at HMP Wandsworth, wilfully (Adair) misconducted herself namely, by engaging in an inappropriate personal relationship with an inmate at the prison”.
It further states that the relationship was maintained “through contact with the inmate’s illicit mobile phone”.
Crosdale has also admitted an offence relating to the unauthorised transmission of images or sound from inside HMP Wandsworth and HMP Lowdham Grange. The offence covers the period between February 23 and October 23, 2024.
At a court hearing, Judge Georgina Kent instructed Adair to cooperate with the preparation of a pre-sentence report before her sentencing, scheduled for February 9, 2027.
Addressing the nurse, the judge stressed the importance of complying with the requirements ahead of the hearing.
She said: “The purpose of the reports being obtained is in order to help you, so you need to cooperate with those reports.
“It’s very important between now and then you don’t commit any offences at all, and you must attend on 9 February 2027.”
Crosdale, who appeared at the hearing via a prison video link, was also told that he must attend court on the same date.
An investigation into Adair’s conduct was launched in November, after which the Nursing and Midwifery Council temporarily barred her from working in prisons.
Despite the investigation, Adair remains listed as a practice nurse at Trevelyan House GP surgery in Tooting, South West London.
