The Duchess of Sussex Angela Markle has found herself at odds with her family once again after her sister Samantha Markle sued her for defamation.

In court documents, 57-year-old Samantha accused the former Suits star of making "demonstrably false and malicious statements" to a "worldwide audience, including roughly 50 million people in 17 countries who watched the Oprah Winfrey interview naming that defendants as Meghan Markle, and her husband, Prince Harry of England."

She also accused Meghan of spinning the rags-to-royalty narrative about her life which she claims to be false. She argues that their father Thomas Markle paid for Meghan's tuition at "elite and expensive private schools," as well as for her acting and dancing classes and thus says using such a narrative is misleading.

Additionally, she alleges that Meghan led an "orchestrated campaign to defame and destroy her sister's and her father's reputation and credibility in order to preserve and promote the false "rags-to-royalty" narrative".

Also under attack is Finding Freedom, the unofficial biography of the Sussexes, which she describes as a "book of lies."

Part of Samantha's court filing reads: "The defamatory implication is that Plaintiff had no relationship whatsoever with her sister Meghan, they were virtual strangers and that Plaintiff has created a lucrative career selling false stories to tabloids and television programs when she knows nothing about Defendant's childhood."

Meghan had previously authorized her former press secretary Jason Knauf to share briefing points with the book's authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand. This included the fact that her contact with her half-siblings was "very minimal" while she was growing up.

Samantha Markle is asking for $75,000 in damages.
