TV presenter and British icon Kim Woodburn has died aged 83 after a short illness battle. The TV personality became a household name for her work presenting ‘How Clean Is Your House?’ which aired from 2003 to 2009. The show which taught people nationwide how to ditch the dirt and keep a clean home was the foundation for Woodburn's fame. However, without Woodburn's wit, relatability and Queen Elizabeth-inspired fashion choices, it’s likely the show (which boasted 4 million viewers) would have been a Channel 4 dud.
Woodburn (born Patricia Mackenzie) first stormed our screens as the show's “Dirt Detective” who wasn’t afraid to mince her words and instantly became one of the nation's much loved mother figures ending her life-long career as a professional cleaner. Woodburn presented alongside Aggie Mackenzie for the show's successful 6 year run and though the pairs fiery humours seemed to bounce off each other perfectly, their relationship was not always smooth sailing. In response to news of Woodburn's passing, Mackenzie shared via a public post:
"Behind the fierce persona was deep pain and incredible strength. She survived because she had to. I hope she’s resting now. She was an unforgettable woman."
Woodburn's TV successes continued and in 2017 she ditched her trademark pearl necklace and Chanel-style skirt suit when she appeared as a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother, finishing as runner-up. She went on to appear in I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! E4's Celebrity Cooking School, Celebrity Come Dine With Me and A Place In The Sun, as well as regularly contributing to ITV's This Morning and Loose Women.
Months ago, Woodburn went front selling video greetings to fans on social media, to no longer posting at all. Woodburn had shared a message to her more than 94,000 followers on Instagram before her posting ceased, stating: “No more videos for now, my loves, I need to get better!” On Tuesday, Kim’s husband shared a montage of photos of her over the years, starting when she was just four years old, alongside the message: "My wonderful, beautiful, Kim passed away last night. God bless, my love, xx xx"
Her manager said in a statement: "It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved Kim Woodburn passed away yesterday following a short illness. Kim was an incredibly kind, caring, charismatic and strong person. Her husband, Peter, is heartbroken at the loss of his soulmate. We are so proud of the amazing things Kim achieved in her life and career. We kindly ask that Kim's husband and close friends are given the time and privacy they need to grieve. We will not be releasing any further details.”
