THE BRITISH BLACKLIST HOSTS FOURTH ANNUAL BLACKLISTED HONOURS IN LONDON

Aaron Pierre, Lashana Lynch, Ashley Walters and Giggs among seven distinguished honourees. The British Blacklist marked another milestone in its mission to champion Black creativity with the fourth annual Blacklisted Honours, bringing together some of the most influential voices across the arts and entertainment industries in London.

Held at Mr Porter Bar and Restaurant in central London on Tuesday, 13 October, the ceremony recognised seven outstanding individuals whose work continues to make a significant impact across the creative landscape. Sponsored by DDA and Talking Scripts, the event celebrated the achievements of established and emerging voices shaping culture through their talent, innovation and storytelling.

The evening saw The British Blacklist founder Akua Gyamfi present Impact Awards to Aaron Pierre, Ashley Walters, Lashana Lynch, Giggs, Dean Atta, Lynette Linton and Sharon Martin, recognising their exceptional contributions to the arts.

The Blacklisted Honours remains a key part of The British Blacklist’s commitment to recognising and uplifting Black talent across the creative industries. Previous recipients include Malachi Kirby, Letitia Wright, Damson Idris, Yvonne Isimeme Ibazebo and Bernardine Evaristo, reflecting the breadth of talent the initiative has celebrated over the years.

Founded in 2012 by Akua Gyamfi, The British Blacklist has established itself as a leading online platform dedicated to highlighting Black creatives working across entertainment and culture. Through editorial features, events and strategic industry partnerships, the platform continues to provide visibility for both emerging talent and established creatives.

Gyamfi’s work in creating opportunities for Black storytellers extended further in 2019 when she co-founded S.O.U.L. Fest at the BFI, an initiative celebrating filmmakers from the UK and the African diaspora. In 2021, she went on to establish the annual Blacklisted Honours alongside the TBB creative network database, further expanding the platform’s work in connecting, celebrating and supporting creative talent.

Speaking about the significance of this year’s ceremony, Akua Gyamfi, Founder of The British Blacklist, said:

“Now in its fourth year, the Blacklisted Honours continues to celebrate the extraordinary contributions Black creatives make across screen, stage, literature and sound. It is a testament to the brilliant work being created and shared with the world, and to the determination of our creatives who, despite the challenges facing the industry, continue to persevere, break barriers and tell stories that matter.

What began as an intimate luncheon in 2021, recognising just one honouree, has grown into a special moment in our cultural calendar. To celebrate seven exceptional talents this year reinforces why it is so important that we continue to create spaces where our achievements are recognised, our contributions celebrated and our community comes together to give people their flowers.”

As the Blacklisted Honours enters its fourth year, the event continues to reinforce the importance of recognising Black excellence and creating opportunities for creatives to be celebrated for their contributions.
