Once one of the most visible faces in the UK’s online entertainment scene, Yung Filly has returned to the public eye as his trial over allegations of rape and assault begins in Australia. The 30-year-old, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, appeared at Perth District Court on Monday, July 20, where he pleaded not guilty to 10 charges.

These include six counts of sexual penetration without consent, three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of impeding another person’s breathing by applying pressure to their neck.

The charges relate to an alleged incident involving a 20-year-old woman following Filly’s performance at Bar1 Nightclub in Hillarys, Perth, in September 2024. Prosecutors claim the woman, who was a fan of the entertainer, met him in the venue’s VIP area before leaving with him and his entourage at approximately 3am.

The court heard that she believed she was being taken to an after-party but was instead brought to the InterContinental Hotel, where one of Filly’s minders allegedly took her phone. Prosecutors say the pair initially engaged in consensual sex before Filly allegedly became violent, biting and slapping the woman.

It is alleged that the woman asked him to be gentler, but the violence intensified before she withdrew her consent out of fear for her safety. Filly is accused of continuing with sexual acts while biting, choking and physically restraining her.

The woman allegedly left the hotel with extensive bruising to her face, neck and chest, alongside a bite wound that reportedly required a tetanus injection. Filly denies all the allegations against him.

Before the case, Filly had built one of the UK’s most recognisable online careers. Born in Cali, Colombia, he moved to south London as a young child and began uploading comedy sketches and question-and-answer videos to YouTube in 2013.

His popularity continued to grow through his work with Footasylum, and members of Beta Squad, particularly his longtime friend and collaborator Chunkz. The pair became known for their chemistry across online dating series, challenges, podcasts and music, later winning Best Media Personality together at the 2021 MOBO Awards.

Filly also crossed into mainstream television, hosting BBC Three’s Hot Property and appearing on Soccer Aid, The Great Celebrity Bake Off and Munya And Filly Get Chilly. His music career began in 2017, with songs including Hold alongside Chunkz, Day To Day featuring Chip and Grey with Aitch.

However, his career came to an abrupt pause when he was arrested in Brisbane on October 8, 2024, while touring Australia. He was extradited to Perth the following day and initially charged with eight offences before two additional counts were added in June 2025. 

Since news of the allegations broke, Filly has maintained a fairly low public profile. He stopped posting across his social media accounts for several months and has largely only been seen during court appearances. He briefly returned to Snapchat almost a year later but did not address the case, with his bail conditions preventing him from discussing it online.

The trial is expected to last approximately two weeks and remains ongoing.
