British YouTuber and rapper Yung Filly has been acquitted of multiple rape allegations following a high-profile trial in Western Australia, though he was convicted on two assault-related charges. A jury delivered its verdict on Friday, finding the entertainer, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, not guilty on three counts of sexual penetration without consent. However, jurors found him guilty on two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm. After the verdicts were read Filly reportedly cried.

The case stemmed from an incident involving a woman who was 20 years old at the time. Prosecutors alleged that Barrientos sexually assaulted her in a hotel room after performing at a nightclub event in Hillarys, a coastal suburb of Perth, in 2024.

Jurors were unable to reach a verdict on three additional rape charges, resulting in a hung jury on those counts. Barrientos was also acquitted of one further charge of assault occasioning bodily harm and a separate charge of strangulation.

According to local media reports, the 30-year-old social media personality became emotional as the verdicts were read in court. He will remain on bail until 21 August, when the court is expected to determine a date for sentencing on the assault convictions.

Prosecutors must now decide whether they will pursue a retrial on the three rape charges for which the jury could not reach a unanimous decision.

Barrientos has remained on bail since he was first charged. He was permitted to return to the United Kingdom for several months after the charges were laid before travelling back to Western Australia for the trial.

During his testimony, Barrientos told the court that he had been attracted to the woman when they first met at the venue. He said she was standing in the general admission area while he was in a VIP section and denied behaving inappropriately toward her.

The performer acknowledged placing a hand on her waist but rejected claims that he touched her breast or placed his hands inside her clothing.

Barrientos also described the atmosphere between them as positive when they later arrived at his hotel. The court heard that the woman’s phone was taken by a security guard, which Barrientos said was a routine measure intended to protect privacy.

Evidence presented during the trial indicated that the pair initially engaged in consensual sexual activity. The complainant alleged that the encounter later became violent and that she repeatedly told Barrientos to stop.

She accused him of causing injuries including bruises, bite marks and attempting to choke her. Photographs showing injuries to her face and neck were presented as evidence during proceedings.

While Barrientos denied that the woman repeatedly withdrew consent, he admitted biting her on several occasions, describing the marks as “love bites.”

In closing submissions, prosecutor Danielle Clarke argued that Barrientos had abused his position and fame, describing him as an entitled individual who had violated the complainant. The defence, meanwhile, challenged the reliability of the woman’s account, claiming her evidence contained inconsistencies and exaggerations.

Barrientos, who was born in Colombia and raised in the United Kingdom, rose to prominence through the YouTube group Beta Squad. He has also appeared on television, including Channel 4’s celebrity edition of Bake Off, and has presented programmes for BBC Three.

The entertainer has built a substantial online following, with approximately 1.8 million subscribers on YouTube, three million followers on TikTok and 2.4 million followers on Instagram.
