WOMAN WHO CALLED BOUNCER N-WORD 25 TIMES AND SPAT AT HIM SPARED JAIL

WOMAN WHO CALLED BOUNCER N-WORD 25 TIMES AND SPAT AT HIM SPARED JAIL

Mother and beautician Shannon Quinn, 28, spat in bouncer Ethan Obom's face and called him the N-word 25 times after being told she was not getting into the Banff club in Southport in October last year.

Liverpool Magistrates’ Court heard that despite crossing paths by chance that night, the pair knew each other from secondary school. Quinn’s lawyer Alison Sharples confirmed this, stating:

”The complainant is known to her as they went to school together. But it is clear more went on than meets the eye.”

The mum-of-one admitted to her wrongdoing outside of the club, blaming her outburst on grief, following the death of her mum, Nan and an unidentified friend in 2021. In Quinn’s defence, Sharples told the court:

“She is a young woman who has a lot going on dealing with multiple mental health diagnoses. You can see what happened in relation to her mum…

It was absolutely horrific for her to have to deal with that as a young woman…

On the day in question she actually said in one of the messages to the complainant, “I was not myself”.

She accepts that she was drinking to excess and behaved in a manner that was completely unacceptable and wrong. She held her hands up and said, “I know I have done something wrong”.

Sharples added:

This offence was borne out of having too much alcohol of the night and the stress of everything else she has been dealing with the last few years.’

However, Obom further alleged that after the heated attack outside of the nightclub, he received a phone call from his fiance and mother of his child saying their front bay window had been broken. The father-of-one told the court:

“That night I immediately left work as I did not feel it was safe to leave my partner and child in the property on their own.”

Whilst, as Sharples made clear, Quinn “has never accepted that she was the person who caused the damage to the window… she accepts that she made threats to cause criminal damage.”

Quinn pleaded guilty to making threats to damage property, assault and racially aggravated intentional harassment and was given a 12-month community order with requirements that she complete 20 days of rehabilitation activity and wear a sobriety tag for 120 days.

By Quinn’s defence team's own admission, her crimes were fuelled by her excessive alcohol consumption that night and she has a previous motoring conviction from 2022 for failing to provide a breath specimen. During her sentencing for the racially aggravated abuse, Magistrate Linda Phillips told Quinn: ‘I suggest that you do not drink alcohol now.’
