A woman is fighting for her life in hospital and a man has sustained ‘life-changing’ injuries after a car allegedly mounted the pavement and struck pedestrians in Soho.
The incident happened around 4.30am on Sunday morning on Argyll Street, Westminster (between Oxford Street and Great Marlborough Street), in central London’s busy retail and theatre district. A woman in her 30s was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition, while a man in his 50s also sustained life-changing injuries. A second woman, also in her 30s, was treated for minor injuries.
The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and drink driving, and remains in custody. The incident is not being treated as terror-related. Online reports suggest that the driver may be popular influencer and hairdresser Rielle, who has over 359,000 followers online, many of whom have begun leaving comments on her page related to the incident.
A series of videos circulating on social media allegedly depict the incident and show the driver running her black car into the female victim, whilst someone in the crowd shouts “don’t run her over”. Reports indicate the victim is popular influencer Klaudia aka Klaudiaglam, who has amassed over a whopping 255,000 followers.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, of Specialist Crime South, has urged any potential witnesses to come forward. She said:
’As our enquiries continue, our thoughts are with those injured and their loved ones.
While this incident took place in the early hours of the morning, venues in the area were still open, and we believe a number of people will have seen what happened.
I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or any activity prior to it that they feel may be of relevance, to come forward.
‘The information you have - however minor you believe it may be - could be of crucial importance to investigators.’
