The 2025 Met Gala, held on 5 May at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, embraced the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrating 300 years of Black fashion. The dress code, “Tailored for You,” encouraged attendees to honour Black heritage through bespoke tailoring and cultural symbolism. British stars made a significant impact on the red carpet with Damson Idris, Lewis Hamilton and Stormzy making appearances.
Damson Idris, the British actor set to star in this summer’s anticipated film F1, made a dramatic entrance by arriving in a Tommy Hilfiger-branded race car. Embracing his on-screen persona, he stepped out wearing a sleek racing suit and a glitzy helmet. In true Met Gala fashion, Idris joined the tradition of theatrical wardrobe changes, two assistants swiftly removed the suit to reveal a striking deep red three-piece ensemble underneath. Race car driver Lewis Hamilton, known for his impeccable style both on and off the track, brought sophistication to the red carpet in a crisp white double-breasted suit, finished with a matching beret, a flawless fusion of elegance and individuality.
Rapper Stormzy turned heads in a bold look by Haider Ackermann for Tom Ford. He wore a figure-hugging white ruffled shirt layered over a vest, paired with classic black trousers and a cummerbund, showcasing his growing fashion flair.
Central Cee, who once cheekily rapped about turning down the Met Gala in his track 'Our 25th Birthday', clearly had a change of heart. Not only did he attend, but he also embraced the occasion in full formalwear. Dressed in a stylish suit and tie by Jacquemus.
James Corden, who moved back to the UK last year, made a return to the American spotlight for the evening. He kept things timeless in a classic black and white tuxedo, accompanied by his wife, Julia Carey, for a sophisticated showing.
Cynthia Erivo brought Hollywood glamour to the steps of the Met in a dazzling Givenchy ensemble. The star of Wicked wore a glittering beaded bodysuit paired with a dramatic, voluminous skirt. Her powerful look showed off her legs and stage presence, a perfect prelude to her return as Elphaba later this year.
British stars certainly made their mark on this year's Met Gala, but all eyes were on Rihanna as she debuted her new baby bump. This will be the third baby Riri has with her partner A$AP Rocky (whose real name is Rakim Mayers).
The Fenty beauty entrepreneur and her rapper beau share two sons, RZA Athelston Mayers and Riot Rose Mayers. RZA was born in May 2022, and Riot followed in August 2023.
