Rihanna Faces Backlash Over How She Described Her Baby…

Some of Rihanna’s followers are condemning her for using the word ‘fine’ to describe her child’s looks, claiming that it’s inappropriate.

However, many West-African and Carribean fans are finding the scrutiny ridiculous and say that culture plays a big part in her language because she is from Barbados.

Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, posed with their son for the March edition of British Vogue Magazine. The beautiful snaps have caught the attention of many names online, but have also sparked the following controversy regarding the singer’s choice of words to compliment her son.

Under a series of pictures, her caption read:

‘my son is so fine! idc idc idc!

‘How crazy both my babies were in these photos and mommy had no clue <3<3’.

The second part of the caption refers to her second pregancy, which she announced to the world during her Superbowl halftime performance. However, people seemed far more interested in the beginning part of the caption, where she refered to her son, whose name is yet to be disclosed, as ‘fine.’

One Instagram user commented under the post,

‘Fine!? more like cute, adorable..he’s not a grown man.. lol’,

to which RihRih replied,

‘you just keep your lil cougar paws away from him and we good!’

Die hard Rihanna fans have joked that “2011 Rihanna is back” referencing her past reputation to show no mercy to negative comments under her posts.

Under the contorversial post, another use wrote,

‘who calls a baby fine??’

and again, the singer was not budging, as she replied,

‘his mother!!!’

The back and forths have ignited an interesting discussion about culture, background and societal standards that reached various social platforms.

Some twitter users have maintained that the use of ‘fine’ here is strange…

Now just a few months ago we were all dunking on boy moms who call their sons “fine” but now that Rihanna did it… it’s perfectly acceptable? Can we all be serious for once.. pic.twitter.com/NQa7nRdBDn

While others have jumped to the singer’s defence, claiming that culture plays a big part in langauge. Additionally, many people have supported Rihanna by attetsing to the use of the adjective in their own cultures, including Nigerian culture, where it is not uncommon for a mother to call her son ‘fine’.
