Canadian hip-hop artist Tory Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion, has been hospitalised following a violent attack at the California Correctional Institution, during which he was stabbed 14 times. The incident left him with multiple stab wounds and collapsed lungs, requiring immediate medical attention.

Tory Lanez, also known as Daystar Peterson, was attacked by another inmate around 7:20am (local time) on Monday, 12 May. According to prison officials, the 32-year-old rapper sustained 14 stab wounds across his back, torso, head, and face. The severity of the injuries led to both his lungs collapsing, requiring temporary placement on a breathing apparatus. An Instagram post from Lanez’s account stated that he is now breathing independently and remains in good spirits, expressing gratitude for his recovery.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has initiated an investigation into the incident. Pedro Caleròn Michel, a spokesperson for the department, confirmed that prison staff administered first aid before Lanez was transported to a hospital. Details regarding the attacker’s identity and motive have not yet been disclosed.

Lanez was convicted in 2023 on three felony charges related to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete. The incident occurred after apart at Kylie Jenner’s residence, leading to a heated argument between the two artists. Megan testified that lanes shot at her feet, shouting for her to “dance”, resulting in injuries that required surgical removal of bullet fragments.

Lanez has consistently maintained his innocence and did not apologise during sentencing. The case has been a polarising topic within the hip-hop community, with figures like 50 Cent expressing support for Lanez and advocating for leniency. Despite his incarceration, Lanez has hinted at releasing new music from prison, including an album titled  Peterson.
