PM Faces Vote of No Confidence and Could Resign By This Evening

Boris Johnson will face a confidence vote this evening after enough MPs from the Conservative Party have submitted letters calling for a contest.

The vote will take place between 6PM and 8PM this evening in the House of Commons. An announcement on the result is expected to arrive approximately an hour after the vote closes.Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the backbench Conservative 1922 Committee, has reportedly received enough letters from Conservative MP's for a vote of no confidence to take place.

A no-confidence vote is triggered when 15% of Tory MPs (54 in this instance) submit letters of no confidence in the PM.A Downing Street spokesman has said: "Tonight is a chance to end months of speculation and allow the government to draw a line and move on, delivering on the people's priorities."The PM welcomes the opportunity to make his case to MPs and will remind them that when they're united and focused on the issues that matter to voters there is no more formidable political force

It's expected that Tory whips will meet with the Prime Minister today in an effort to rally MPs to support him this evening.Shortly after the vote of no confidence was announced several prominent government ministers and MP's would take to social media to announce their support for the Prime Minister.Brandon Lewis, the Northern Ireland Secretary, commented: "The prime minister has my full backing in today's vote," While Michael Gove has said that the party "need to move past this moment and unite" behind Boris Johnson.
