Rapper Nicki Minaj's husband has been sentenced to a year of home arrest for failing to register as a sex offender.

Minaj's husband was required to inform the authorities when moving due to a rape conviction in 1995. He, however, failed to do so when moving to California in 2019.

Under US law, registered sex offenders have five days to update their details.

Petty has previously served four years of prison for the crime in 1995.

As well as this, Petty has served seven years in prison in 2006 after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter.

He's now been sentenced and fined $55,000 (£46,000), according to the US Attorney's Office.

His latest hearing saw prosecutors say house arrest was not tough enough, and pleaded for the judge to give Petty further prison time.

Minaj has previously defended her husband's past actions, writing on social media in 2018: "He was 15, she was 16 in a relationship. But go awf, internet, y'all can't run my life. y'all can't even run y'all own life."

The couple began dating in 2018 and the pair are now married with one son "Papa Bear".

In August 2021, the couple were sued by the woman he was convicted of attempting to rape. She filed a lawsuit asserting that the couple harassed her to try to make her take back her claims.
