Kanye West is set to buy the "free speech" social media app 'PARLER'
Kanye's decision to purchase PARLER has come after both Instagram and Twitter blocked him for violating their terms of use after he posted anti-Semitic comments which went viral.
West who tweeted: "'m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I'm going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE The funny thing is I actually can't be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda,". The Tweet has since been deleted and the rapper's account locked.
West stated: "In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial, we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves."
The app, which Kanye is an active user of, advertises itself as a "viewpoint-neutral social media app dedicated to freedom of expression, civil discourse, and user privacy".
PARLER itself has had a history of controversy as the app was removed from the Google play store in January 2021 for allowing posts that seek "to incite ongoing violence in the US".
Apple also removed the app from its App Store following the attempted insurrection of a Pro-Trump mob during the White House invasion following the election of President Joe in 2021.
It was suspected that the app would be the new platform for the Former President of the United States, Donald Trump following his ban from Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok for his role in encouraging the mobs which raided the White House.
Trump instead launched his own social media platform Truth Social. The platform advertises itself similarly to PARLER as it promotes a "big tent approach" which is free of censorship.
West's takeover of Parler is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2022.
