IPSWICH SIXTH FORM STUDENT ACHIEVES HIGHEST A LEVEL LAW GRADE IN THE COUNTRY

Nigerian-born Abiola Abidoye, an eighteen-year-old student from Ipswich, has captured national attention after securing the highest A-Level score in law across the United Kingdom. The gifted scholar, a pupil at One Sixth Form College, earned A* grades in all four of his chosen subjects—mathematics, further mathematics, law, and physics—cementing his reputation as an outstanding all-rounder.

What makes his feat even more remarkable is that law was not initially his strongest subject. Despite this, Abiola scored an impressive 224 out of a possible 240 marks across his three law papers, a performance that officially ranked him as the top A-Level law student in the country. His achievement has been widely praised as a testament to both his intellectual range and relentless dedication.

Reflecting on his results, Abiola expressed both joy and surprise:
“I’m really pleased. Maths and physics are my strong suits, but I took law because it’s something I’m genuinely passionate about. I love exploring all areas of law—even ones we didn’t study formally, like human rights. It was a subject I did for enjoyment, so I wasn’t expecting to do this well.”
Behind the triumph, however, was a demanding journey marked by sacrifice and determination. Abiola admitted to long nights of study, often working until the early hours to prepare thoroughly for his exams. “I put a lot of pressure on myself and pushed really hard. It wasn’t easy, but I’m proud of what I achieved,” he said.

His law grade was the first result released, providing a boost of confidence ahead of his other subjects. “Seeing that score calmed my nerves. It reassured me before the rest of my results came in,” he explained.

Abiola was quick to credit his teachers for their guidance, noting that the support he received at One Sixth Form College played a key role in his success. “The teachers were incredible. Their encouragement helped me stay focused and disciplined,” he said.

Educational experts have described his results as “outstanding,” pointing out that securing A* grades in four subjects—two of which are among the toughest at A-Level—is an achievement few students manage. For the Nigerian community in Ipswich and beyond, Abiola’s success is a powerful example of the academic excellence young Africans continue to demonstrate internationally.
