Hypo: Suspect Arrested on Suspicion of Murder
A 32-year-old man has been arrested by police on suspicion of murdering the rapper Hypo who was stabbed at a Jubilee party in east London. The suspect has been named as Laurie John-Phillip of Enfield. He has now been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article. He remains in custody. A post-mortem examination said that Hypo had died from "sharp force trauma to the chest".
Hypo, whose real name was Lamar Jackson, had attended a Platinum Jubilee party in Redbridge on Friday. Hypo had posted videos of himself arriving to the party on his personal social media accounts. He was found with stab injuries and died at the scene. The Met Police said officers were called at about 00:10 BST on Friday to a venue in Chigwell Road in Woodford Green.
They also said it is possible that the events leading up to the incident and the incident itself could have been captured as footage on party attendees' mobile phones.Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith said: "This attack happened at a party and we know that a large number of people would have been in attendance. I would urge anyone who is yet to speak with us to come forward and let us know what you saw. Please take a look and call us. It is vital that we establish what happened."
According to MyLondon, witnesses alleged that party attendees "deliberately blocked" an ambulance which arrived to help the rapper. A resident of the area said: "There were people sitting in their cars and it looked like they were deliberately blocking this ambulance with its blue lights on from getting to the venue."The resident continued: "My house backs onto the venue the party was held in.
The loud music started at about 4pm and I reckon there were like 100 people turning up to this party. At around midnight I heard shouting and screaming and could see a massive fight with dozens of people involved. I knew something wasn't right, I could just feel it."The suspect will appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court later on suspicion of murder.
