FORMER ARSENAL PLAYER THOMAS PARTEY GRANTED BAIL ON FIVE RAPE CHARGES

Thomas Partey, the Ghanaian international midfielder who recently left Arsenal, has appeared in court following a series of serious criminal charges. He is accused of committing multiple sexual offences against three women between 2021 and 2022, during his time at the Premier League club. The player was granted conditional bail during a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (5 August).

Partey faces five counts of rape, two relating to one woman, three to another, and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman. All alleged incidents are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, during Partey’s time at Arsenal. Partey has firmly denied all allegations. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, stated that he

"Denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three‑year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name."

Partey joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in October 2020 for around £45 million, becoming the most expensive Ghanaian player ever at the time. In five years with the Gunners, he made approximately 130 league appearances, scoring nine goals and helping Arsenal to lift the FA Community Shield in 2023. Prior to his move to north London, he had developed at Atlético Madrid, featuring in their Europa League and UEFA Super Cup victories in 2018 and finishing runners‑up in the 2016 Champions League final.

Following the expiration of his contract on 30 June 2025, Partey left Arsenal as a free agent. He is reported to have undergone a medical and is expected to sign a two‑year deal, with a possible extension, at La Liga side Villarreal. His bail terms do not block him from continuing his career in Spain while the legal process continues.

Supporters and critics alike have closely watched developments. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted the club followed appropriate protocols during the ongoing investigation, which began after Partey’s arrest in July 2022.

Under the terms of his bail, Partey is prohibited from contacting any of the three women involved in the case. He must also inform police of any permanent changes to his address and notify them in advance of any international travel.

The case is set to return to court on 2 September at the Old Bailey for trial proceedings.
