CHRIS EUBANK JR STEPS AWAY FROM BOXING AFTER REVEALING ONGOING HEALTH ISSUES

Chris Eubank Jr has revealed that his return to the ring is on indefinite hold after sharing a worrying update about his health. The British middleweight posted a video on Tuesday across his X and Instagram accounts, showing himself in a hospital bed connected to medical equipment while being monitored by doctors. He offered no specifics about the condition he is dealing with but confirmed that the issues have been ongoing for some time.

In a message accompanying the video, Eubank Jr wrote:
"I’ve been dealing with a lot of health issues over the last year and it all finally caught up with me last month. I won’t fight again until I’m back to 100%, and I don’t know when that will be. But one thing’s for sure—I'll do everything I can to make sure the old me returns for a big comeback for the supporters who’ve stuck with me through thick and thin."

Eubank Jr hinted at personal struggles following his shock loss to long-time rival Conor Benn in their rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month. In the aftermath of the defeat, he admitted he had been “through hell and back” just to make it into the ring.

“At the moment, I’m not in the right place mentally to think about my next fight,” he said. “I need to recover, deal with everything I’m facing, and only then will I be able to map out my future in the sport.”

The 35-year-old’s battles with extreme weight cuts in preparation for both bouts against Benn were widely discussed. He was fined £375,000 for coming in 0.05lb over the limit before their first meeting. After winning that fight on points in April, Eubank Jr spent two nights in hospital for precautionary tests. Rumors of a broken jaw were dismissed, though he later revealed he required surgery to close a cut near his right eye that he says came from an accidental head clash.

Despite their rivalry now standing at one victory each, Benn has ruled out a trilogy and said he has no desire to revisit the feud that stems from the famous clashes between their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr, in the 1990s. After stopping Eubank Jr in their rematch, Benn made it clear that he intends to return to welterweight and pursue world title opportunities instead.

Benn received a major boost on Tuesday as he was officially named the mandatory challenger for the WBC welterweight title currently held by Mario Barrios. Barrios is set to defend the belt for the third time in February against Ryan Garcia.

In a short announcement on X, Benn said:
"Just got the news that I’m now number one in the WBC rankings—mandatory for the WBC world title. I’ll be watching Barrios vs Garcia closely. I want the winner early next year. God willing, that belt is mine. Britain will have a new world champion. Let’s have it."
