Nigerian authorities have confirmed that British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a car crash on the Ogun–Lagos state expressway on Monday morning.

The 36 year old was travelling along the busy Lagos Ibadan expressway when the vehicle he was in reportedly collided with a stationary truck. Ogun State Police Command confirmed that two people lost their lives in the crash and that Joshua was among those injured.

Joshua sustained minor injuries and is currently fine. He, along with other injured passengers, were taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Images and videos circulating on social media show a badly damaged vehicle at the scene, alongside footage of Joshua sitting shirtless in the back of a car surrounded by broken glass. In other clips, the boxer can be seen grimacing as he attempts to exit the wreckage.

Joshua was seated in the back of the Lexus alongside another passenger, while a third person sat beside the driver. A separate security vehicle was reportedly travelling behind them before the crash occurred.

While details surrounding the identities of the deceased have not yet been released, police have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
