Adidas Cuts Ties With Kanye West Following His Antisemitic Comments

The German sportswear brand has ceased its partnership with Kanye West, stating "Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech".

Adidas has joined other brands in boycotting Kanye West in response to the Antisemitic comments that he made on Twitter.The German sportswear brand released a statement in which they described Ye's comments as "unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company's values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness".Adidas also said "Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,". As a result of cutting ties with Ye, Adidas has revealed it would make a "short term" loss of €250m (£217m) to its revenue.

Adidas began its partnership with West in 2013, however, it will now cease all production of products under West's Yeezy brand. Payments to Ye and his other companies will also be stopped.The iconic partnership between Ye and Adidas bought in nearly $1.7bn (£1.5bn) in revenue in 2020.In the statement, Adidas added "Adidas will stop the Adidas Yeezy business with immediate effect.

The decision follows an increase of pressure from the public for the company to boycott West after antisemitic hate groups have spoken out in support of Kanye's comments.Ye's former wife, Kim Kardashian, made a tweet this Monday which appeared to indirectly condemn his actions. In the tweet, Kardashian pledged to stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end.

Adidas has now joined various other brands and talent agencies in the boycotting of Kanye West.These companies include fashion brands Balenciaga, JPMorgan Chase, and GAP. Talent agencies CAA and UTA have also joined in with the boycott.Additionally, Wests Twitter and Instagram accounts still remain locked following his initial comments.
