Three men have been sentenced to prison for carrying out a daylight raid on a jewellery shop in south-west London, making off with merchandise valued at approximately £225,000. Deniz Mehmet, 28, Robert Clarke, 50, and Lee Ramsey, 46, all from Essex, were responsible for the robbery at a jewellery business in Paved Court, Richmond, on 31 January.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the offenders used a sledgehammer to smash the shop’s display window before stealing a large quantity of jewellery and fleeing the scene. The brazen attack took place during the day, attracting significant concern among local residents and businesses.

The three men later admitted their involvement and were sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday. Mehmet, of Elham Drive, Basildon, received a five-year prison sentence. Clarke, who lives on Lever Lane in Rochford, was jailed for six years and six months, while Ramsey, of Hastingwood Road, Harlow, was sentenced to five years and three months behind bars.

Investigators were able to identify the offenders through a combination of CCTV footage, forensic examinations, and the recovery of a vehicle believed to have been used in connection with the robbery.

Police arrested Clarke and Ramsey during early-morning operations at their homes on 31 March. Mehmet was later detained on 8 April while in a public street.

Detective Superintendent Dan Mitchell, from the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad, said incidents of this nature have a significant impact on both businesses and local communities.

“These sentences represent the outcome of a thorough and determined investigation,” he said.

“We remain committed to tackling smash-and-grab robberies across London and bringing those responsible to justice, regardless of where they are based.

“Anyone involved in this type of criminal activity should understand that we will continue to pursue offenders relentlessly and ensure they are held accountable for their actions.”
