INSIDE DAY TWO OF MICHAEL WARD TRIAL AS CREATOR BREAKS DOWN KEY EVIDENCE

As the trial involving actor Michael Ward continues, content creator Murad Murali has shared a breakdown of what was reportedly presented during the second day of proceedings. According to his account, the defense highlighted a series of messages and interactions between Ward and the complainant following the alleged incident, arguing that they support the position that the relationship was consensual.

At Snaresbrook Crown Court, jurors heard evidence from a woman who alleges that the Top Boy star raped her in a vehicle after the pair met at a London nightclub on 2 January 2023.

Ward, 28, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault.

The complainant told the court that during an afterparty in Stratford, east London, she was instructed to walk behind Ward and avoid speaking to others as they made their way to a car where they were supposed to talk.

Jurors were shown a police interview conducted on 13 January 2023. In that interview, the woman recalled: "I tried to leave the vehicle and he told me to close the door."

While describing the alleged incident, she told officers: "He said: 'If I tell you to do it, you do it.'"

When asked about her emotional state during the alleged assaults, the woman said she felt "numb" and "scared" and remembered "wanting it all to be over". She added: "I didn't really feel like I had a choice. I said I didn't want to do it."

The court also heard excerpts from a second police interview conducted on 29 July 2024. In that interview, the complainant stated: "He didn't respect what I was saying. All he cared about was what he wanted."

She further described Ward as "overpowering", telling investigators: "As soon as he made me get into the back of the car, the atmosphere completely changed."

Becoming emotional during her interview, the woman continued: "I genuinely believed if I did what he asked I could leave. I just didn't feel like I had a choice but to be there."

The court also examined messages exchanged between the complainant and Ward after the alleged incident. Addressing why those communications were not initially disclosed to police, the woman said: "I don't know why I chose to hide from them that we had a conversation after it happened."

She explained that feelings of embarrassment contributed to her decision, adding: "I just didn't really feel like I had an explanation as to why I replied."

Ward was arrested on 18 January 2023. In a statement to police, he denied the allegations, saying: "I deny the allegation of rape. I want to put on record that we had consensual foreplay and consensual sex."

Born in Jamaica and raised in the UK, Ward rose to prominence through his acting career and received the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2020. He was later nominated twice in the Best Supporting Actor category, for his performance in the anthology series Small Axe and the film Empire of Light.

His screen credits also include Blue Story and the American film Eddington.

The trial remains ongoing.
