Love Island Season 8 star Dami Hope has opened up about the loss of his father in a recent interview with podcaster Paul Brunson, sharing the deeply personal moment he watched his dad pass away.

Speaking candidly, Dami recalled how unexpected the situation was, becoming emotional as he revisited the night everything changed. He explained that what initially seemed like a minor health issue quickly escalated, with his father eventually admitting himself to hospital as his condition worsened.

“This thing that’s not serious keeps getting more and more serious,” he said, reflecting on how rapidly things unfolded.

He also spoke about the emotional shock of seeing his father in such a vulnerable state for the first time. Known to him as a strong, healthy figure throughout his life, the contrast was difficult to process. “I’ve never seen my dad like this before… it’s horrifying,” he admitted.

Dami, who has always been vocal about his close relationship with his family, shared that the days leading up to his father’s passing now feel surreal. His younger sister spent her birthday on February 24, 2024, in the hospital alongside their dad, surrounded by family. Later on, most of the family returned home, leaving Dami and another sibling behind to stay with him. Just before midnight the following day, he recalls the atmosphere suddenly shifting, with machines in his father’s room beeping rapidly as medical staff rushed in.

Only days prior, he had been speaking to his dad as normal. The sudden shift from everyday conversation to pleading with God for his life is something he says he is still trying to process.

“I’ve never had my heart broken before, but when life went out of him, my heart shattered,” he said, becoming visibly emotional during the interview.

His father, Babajide Mayowa Adegbesan, was a father of six. At his funeral, Dami paid tribute to him in a heartfelt speech, describing him as a constant source of inspiration. He also shared a written tribute on Instagram in February 2024, honouring his father’s life and impact.

The vulnerability shown in the interview has resonated with many, with fans expressing support and sharing their own experiences of parental loss. For some, it’s a reminder of how quickly life can shift. For others, it’s the honesty, speaking of grief, that’s struck a chord.
