British woman Isabel Rose has been sentenced to six years in prison after a Hong Kong court convicted her of blackmail and perverting the course of justice, bringing a highly publicised case that began as a rape investigation to a dramatic conclusion.

The case dates back to 2024, when Rose reported to police that she had been raped by an unidentified man in Hong Kong. Her report led to the man's arrest. However, he was later released without charge, and no rape prosecution was brought against him.

Following a six-day trial, the court found Rose guilty of blackmail and perverting the course of justice, ruling that she had fabricated the allegation in an attempt to obtain money. She was subsequently sentenced to six years' imprisonment.

Throughout the proceedings, several aspects of the case attracted widespread discussion. Reports noted that the judge questioned parts of Rose's educational background, including her events management diploma, while her defence argued that her previously clean criminal record should be taken into account during sentencing. Despite those submissions, the court imposed the custodial sentence.

Among those publicly defending Rose was activist group For Black Women UK, which urged people not to rush to judgment. Responding in The Shade Borough's comments section, the organisation wrote:

"Sorry but we refuse to sit back and watch these vile comments about Isabel."

The group also encouraged the public to support Rose by calling on the UK Government to monitor her welfare while she remains in custody and ensure she receives appropriate support. In further comments, the organisation pointed to medical evidence discussed during the proceedings, writing:

"The medical records show she had marks and bruises consistent with strangulation."

Their intervention prompted another wave of discussion, with supporters arguing there were still unanswered questions surrounding the case, while others maintained that the court's verdict should be respected.

The case has since become the subject of widespread debate across social media, with opinions remaining sharply divided between those who support the court's decision and those calling for greater scrutiny of Rose's conviction and welfare while she remains imprisoned.
