Just days after grime pioneers Natalie Athanasiou, better known as NoLay, and Joshua Ramsay, better known as Griminal, shared stunning pictures from what was believed to be their wedding day, the pair revealed that the images were from a joint music video, causing fans to speculate about the nature of their relationship.

After images showing the pair dressed in white, with NoLay wearing an adorned tiara and carrying a white bouquet, quickly got the internet talking, what was initially hailed as a grime love story may just be a fairytale, as the pair recently released a teaser for their music video “When I’m Ere”.

The video was shot at the infamous wedding location St George’s Church in Peckham, known for its weathered, darkened exterior and rustic vibe. But once the music video trailer began circulating, fans quickly commented that their ‘relationship’ was the type you make songs in, not about. One fan commented,

“Absolutely genius marketing”, while another accused the pair of playing “mind games”.

Some fans even asked if Trillary Banks, whose long-running feud with NoLay was reignited when she shared sexually suggestive voice notes that were allegedly sent to her by Griminal, was part of the marketing team. Trillary shared the voice notes on her social media alongside the caption:

“I can confirm one woman’s trash is another woman’s feat.”

The pair were previously locked in a fiery, multi-round rap battle that dominated conversations within the UK music scene during a tense weekend in November 2020. Both artists exchanged hard-hitting diss tracks, drawing major attention from fans and fellow artists alike.

Both Griminal and NoLay have since released more behind-the-scenes footage from their wedding-themed music video, including clips of rapper and presenter Big Narstie dancing.

For long-time grime fans, the thought of a grime marriage between two respected figures who helped shape the sound and culture of the UK underground scene marked a full-circle moment. However, it seems love is not on the cards for the pair this summer, but fans are hopeful that another kind of summer banger is.
