BURNA BOY NAMED AFRICA'S TOP EARNING ARTIST AFTER LATEST U.S TOUR

According to Touring Data (a platform which provides information on ticket sales and more), Nigerian musician Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, recently generated over £1 million at his US concert in Boston. Over the last two years, the Grammy-winner has performed a series of international concerts which have collectively grossed him well over £10 million. Not only do these remarkable numbers push Burna Boy ahead of fellow high-grossing Nigerian recording artists (such as Davido and Wizkid) but having grossed over £10 million from his recent concerts, he is officially the highest grossing African artist in recent years.

On March 2nd, Burna Boy performed at the historic multi-purpose arena TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The large-capacity arena seats 19,580 concert goers and is not even an option for most Nigerian born artists in today's industry. However, in a landmark event, the Afro-Fusion artist performed to his sold-out crowd once again, in a show some fans described as ‘the best concert ever’. Burna Boy became the first African artist to sell out the arena earlier this year but it seems the ‘African Giant’ singer had not yet finished his season of record breaking accomplishments.

Unsurprisingly, Burna Boy’s aptly named ‘I Told Them’ tour, excelled in other arenas and other countries, such as at the ScotiaBank arena in Toronto, Canada which saw another sold out show. Burna Boy continued to sell a considerable number of tickets in places such as Cologne, Germany, all adding up to more than 125,000 total ticket sales - with each ticket being valued at over £74. The data provided by the touring data analytics platform, also shows that Burna Boy was responsible for 14 out of the 20 highest grossing concerts held by African artists in the last 2- 3 years.

We have no doubt that Burna Boy's unique ability to fuse together different musical styles and to collaborate with a vast array of wide-ranging artists from Ed Sheeran and Jorja Smith to Major Lazor, has contributed to his global success. The star has recently been very vocal about his refusal to be boxed into the Afrobeats genre and his desire to keep on expanding his musical creativity, we look forward to seeing whatever highly anticipated, record-breaking move the ‘Stand Tall’ artist makes next.
